Bike Racks

Bike racks are designed to attach your bike to a vehicle for transport. It may seem a bit ironic that you load one means of transportation onto another one, but for many bikers who live close to many different biking trails it makes a lot of sense. After all, what’s the point of exhausting yourself before you even get to the trail you wanted to ride? Bike racks are especially useful when traveling to a biking destination that is hundreds of miles away.

There are two styles of bike rack, the overhead rack and the trunk rack. An overhead rack is a set of rails that attaches to either side of your car. The two bars sport attachments for the front and rear wheels of anywhere from 2-6 bikes, depending on the model. The additional height on your vehicle can become an issue when going through tunnels, parking garages, and other height limiting areas.

The trunk rack is a bike rack that consists of posts that mount on the trunk of your car. The length of the post determines how many bikes you can fit on the rack. Again, anywhere from 2-6 bikes can be fitted on a single rack, depending on the model. These racks are typically easier to work, because of their lower height. They also present less of a problem when driving, as a few extra feet on the back of your car is much easier to compensate for than a few extra feet on top of it.
